Does Poker Equalize to Gambling Nowadays?
I haven't been in good mood at recent days, and I think the most important reason is poker community is not give themselves that much credit for poker being treated like a skill game.
What I mean is, not only the "Black Friday in China" that basically banned all apps from playing, but also global flagship like Pokerstars, now despite many players's opposition and the leave of many pros, insist to increase rake (which obv make low stake games even tougher to beat, if not impossible) and bring Casino games and Sport Betting games alongside. Even remaining pro like Jake Cody who bet all his high-roller winning on Roulette, how could we try to persuade other spectators that "poke is not a gambling game"?
I write down this because now , as a grinder, I try to as rational as I could be, but I also admit put some of my bankroll of Pokerstars to house game SOUNDS ATTRACTIVE. Why not bring small money aiming for big?
The mean reason of my manga plan is all focus on "competition", where men-to-men, hand-to-hand combat could always bring some good stories. But I can't see any positive consequence for promoting house game, simply lead to nowhere but those gamblers consciously know that's UNBEATABLE but just couldn't help to stop that addition.
I've been put nealy 10 year in poker - which is one third of my current life (and by all means I want to call it 'Sport') and devoted substantial amount of time, money and energy. Fortunately enough, I m still alive and active in this field, but what I seen is 90% of players didn't get positve consequence - Maybe 90% of the game-runners did. Many went broke and some went to jail, while many of them remains as overall losing player, been cheated by collusion, failed to get paid, etc. Even for those steady winners or good REGs, the travel and accomodation expense all cut quite a bunch, online circult seemingly is the only saft way but now also facing crack down.
Does that means this community is doomed, or the game is genetically evil at the very first beginning?
