I've been quite busy with my travels lately, mostly in Macao as poker is on fire in Asia.  It won’t be long until poker is as prevalent as mahjong in Asia.

In additions to my wins there, I am on a roll in the US! In addition to my regular cash games, I’ve done a couple of television shows against other top players as well. One of the shows will be called the “Doubles Poker Championship.” It’s a new concept where 2 players form a team and are able to essentially discuss strategy between hands. Due to tv rules, I can’t tell you the result, so you’ll just have to watch and see for yourself.

However, what I can tell you about is incredibly exciting. I just participated in the inaugural World Team Poker Championship at the Golden Nugget representing China.  I co-headed the team with David Chiu and had Maria Ho, Rich Zhu, Chau Giang, Winifred Yu and Derek Cheung as team mates.  Competing in a team format against other countries for a top prize of $300,000, we won!!! We brought home the gold for our country and were so excited to win after nearly 20 hours of playing.  It felt like a poker marathon. The show and victory will be broadcast on the Fox Sports Network for 13 weeks. If you’re interested in reading more about it, click here.

In addition to this WTP event, I had some more notable victories. Something that you may not know is poker is not the only card game I play. I also enjoy other casino games and just won 2 Venetian Invitation Blackjack tournaments back-to-back.

As much as I’d love to take a break now, it’s tournament season and the World series of Poker is about to start so I have to go to work!  I hope that the cards and lucky streak continue as I try to get my 11th bracelet this year! Wish me luck.  I’ll keep you posted of what’s happening and thank you for your support.

Doubles Poker Championship

Summary

DEFINITION OF “DOUBLES POKER”:
A team of two players share one hand whereby one player plays preflop and the turn, while the other player plays the flop and the river. Teammates alternate roles throughout the match.

EVENT OVERVIEW:
32 invited players - $50,000 buy-in per player
There will be $400,000 added money ($2 million prize pool)
3 stage event – regular season, playoffs, and final table

Regular Season – 4 qualifying matches
Players will start each of the Regular Season matches with 50,000 in chips.
Players will be randomly paired for each match
Each table will have 8 players (4 teams of 2 players each playing “doubles”)
The seating arrangement for the teams will be:
1.Team 1 – Seats 1 & 2
2.Team 2 – Seats 3 & 4
3.Team 3 – Seats 5 & 6
4.Team 4 – Seats 7 & 8
On hand #1, Seats 1, 3, 5, and 7 will start the match as the preflop and turn players.  Seats 2, 4, 6, and 8 will start the match as the flop and river players.
Each qualifying match will take approximately 90 minutes of actual play
Individual players earn points for their finish in each match
Point distribution per match for each team member:
1st place - 20 points
2nd place - 11 points
3rd place - 4 points
4th place – 0 points
The 16 players with the most total points will advance to the playoffs
Winning teammates of each of the 16 matches will receive $10,000 ($5,000 per player)



Playoffs
Players will be paired according to their point standings. Highest point earners will be paired to form a team (see below) with Player #1 earning the most point and Player #16 earning the least

TEAM A - point-earner #1 and #2
TEAM B - #3 and #4
TEAM C - #5 and #6
TEAM D - #7 and #8
TEAM E - #9 and #10
TEAM F - #11 and #12
TEAM G- #13 and #14
TEAM H- #15 and #16

In the event there are 2 or more players tied for the last playoff spot or spots, the tiebreaking system to determine who will advance to playoffs is:
1st Tiebreaker -- Most # of 1st place finishes
2nd Tiebreaker -- Most # of 2nd place finishes
3rd Tiebreaker -- Most # of 3rd place finishes
4th Tiebreaker -- If there is still a tie, players will play a fast-paced shootout to determine who qualifies for the playoffs

Each of the 2 playoff tables will have 8 players (four 2-man teams)
Slower structure than Regular Season. Each playoff match will take approximately 4 hours
Table 1 will be teams A, H, C, F
Table 2 will be teams B, G, D, E
Players starting chips will be their number of accumulated points x5000.  So if Player #1 has 30 points, he will bring 150,000 in chips to add to his teammate chips.
The top two teams from each table will advance to the finals
Advancing teams will remain intact for the Final
3rd and 4th place teams will each receive $10,000 ($5,000 per team member).

Final
The final table will have 8 players (4 2-man teams) for the championship.
The two winning teams from the playoffs will start with 600,000 in chips; the two runner-up teams will start with 400,000
Slower structure than playoffs. Final will take approximately 8 hours of actual playing.

Prize money distribution will be:
1st place team $1,000,000
2nd place team $500,000
3rd place team $200,000
4th place team $100,000

Glad to see Johnny coming here.

Congrats on the recent China's win in the WTP.  Everyone in the team has done a marvelous job.  It was a 20 hrs marathon.  A proud moment for China team.  An event that must be remembered for a long long time.

Wish you, David and others all the best in WSOP 2010.  Hopefully you and David will add more bracelets to your already stunning achievement in WSOP tournaments.  And Rich too, times for getting a bracelet this year, it has been long due.  You came close couple times in recent years.

May the China's win in WTP boost the confidence of Chinese Players for the coming WSOP.  Good luck!
